Frequently, the most direct path to improved performance is to remove the people from the process.

And yet, you can't remove ALL the people.

Have you made it easy to find, understand, and use a process at the point of work?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is OpsGuide a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)?

No. OpsGuide is focused on the last mile.  It stores, manages, delivers (to the point of work), and tracks … the procedures workers use in the facility.

The CMMS is focused on asset health and telling you WHAT to do and WHEN to do it … but it doesn’t tell you HOW to do it in a repeated, successful way.  OpsGuide can receive inputs from the CMMS and return status information back to the CMMS.

No. OpsGuide is focused on the people part of your operation.

There is a proliferation of performance and analytical software, but very little focus on ensuring every member of your team is following the right procedure at the right time … every time.

Not immediately. There are two critical factors:
One. We find that much existing process material is poorly written and not easily understood by the worker.  This material needs to be rewritten.  We have extensive experience writing procedures and can support this effort.  Additionally, OpsGuide has an internal scoring feature that scores each process on a number of factors that define what “good” looks like.  (Users who review the scoring factors and improve their scores will learn how to write better processes.)

Two. You need a culture of discipline – discipline to follow the process. OpsGuide has a number of features to support accountability in your culture transformation effort.
Yes. Each company has a unique instance of the software platform and can only see their process information.

However, much information in plant O&M is not proprietary to the plant owner.  Users can opt to share process improvement and best practices by system or component across all the users in the platform.

Yes & No. Doctors, fighter pilots, and roles that demand repeatable excellence use procedures.

When thoughtful individuals find better ways of doing things, anyone else completing the same task should benefit from that learning.  You need a way to deliver improved processes to the rest of your team.

Additionally, following a procedure reduces the need to remember everything … and this allows the brain to focus on more critical elements of the work.

And it is also true that good employees do not mindlessly follow procedures, but are attentive to the environment and circumstances and recognize the need to deviate when appropriate.
